About Jessie Kern, MS, CCC-SLP
Jessie Kern is originally from mid-central Missouri but has called Council Bluffs Iowa home for nearly 30 years. After completing her Bachelors of Social Work from Creighton University in 1999 Jessie worked for several years in Pottawattamie County educating and advocating for families with children prenatally up to age 5. Through her work with families Jessie collaborated with several speech-language pathologists (SLP) gaining a deep interest and respect for the profession. Intrigued with the variety and depth of the SLP?s scope of practice Jessie returned to school and earned a second undergraduate degree in 2009 going on to complete her Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology in 2011. Since that time Jessie has earned and maintains her national Certificate of Clinical Competence in speech-language pathology along with the relevant state licenses to practice in both Iowa and Nebraska. Jessie worked for 6 years as a school-based SLP in Council Bluffs primarily with students age 3 through middle school before transitioning to medical-based practice in the summer of 2017.
Jessie began working for CHI in July 2017 and has enjoyed working with both in-patients and out-patients primarily at Mercy Council Bluffs and Midlands Hospitals but also in-patients occasionally at a variety of CHI hospitals throughout the metro area. Jessie enjoys working with both adults and children across a wide variety of language impairments along with special interest in motor speech fluency and voice disorders. Jessie is certified in the VitalStim Therapy Program and also has particular interest in adult swallowing therapy. When not working Jessie loves to sing write read and paint and lives in Council Bluffs with her 3 children 2 dogs and 9 chickens.
